Coinmama verification is an identity check carried out by the third-party provider that processes your purchase, not by Coinmama itself. Coinmama does not receive your identity documents or biometric data. The provider tells you what it needs. In many countries, anti-money-laundering rules require crypto service providers to verify their customers.

This page explains how identity verification works when you buy crypto on Coinmama: what happens to your documents and what to do if a check fails. For background, see the guide to KYC (Know Your Customer) rules in crypto.
Does Coinmama require identity verification (KYC)?
Yes. Buying crypto through Coinmama includes an identity check, also called verification or KYC. You’ll be asked to verify your identity before you buy.
What happens to my identity documents?
Coinmama does not receive your identity documents or biometric data.
What documents do I need?
You’ll be told exactly what is needed during the check. Requirements can differ between countries, so follow the on-screen instructions. Use valid details in your own name. For account questions, see the Get verified help articles.
How long does verification take?
It can vary. You’ll be contacted if anything else is needed. Answering requests promptly helps avoid delays.
What if my verification fails?
Follow the instructions you are given. You may be asked to try again or to send more information.
Check that the service is available where you live on the restricted countries and states page. For questions about your Coinmama account, contact Coinmama support.
Why do crypto services verify your identity?
Because anti-money-laundering law requires it in many countries. In the EU, the anti-money-laundering directive covers crypto-asset service providers. It requires them to identify customers and verify their identity using documents, data or information from a reliable and independent source (as of September 2026).
In the UK, the Money Laundering Regulations 2017 apply to cryptoasset exchange providers. They must identify and verify a customer when a business relationship starts (as of September 2026).
