Coinmama’s Pledge for International Women’s Day

WOMENS DAY Blog

This International Women’s Day, Coinmama is celebrating with a pledge to bring more women into cryptocurrency. How come? The answer is simple:

At Coinmama, we believe that the future of money is open-sourced, borderless, and decentralized; that it’s by the people and for the people, and that economic freedom should be available to all.

Available to all. That’s the key. And while recent studies1 show that 43% of people who are interested in investing in cryptocurrency are women, the actual number of female investors in crypto hovers more closely at 20%. That’s true for Coinmama, where 22.7% of users who registered in 2019 are female. And while that’s certainly an improvement over the 10% of female Bitcoin holders of a few years ago, we want to make sure we’re doing everything we can to remove any barriers that exist to women investing in crypto.

So on International Women’s Day, when we honor the centuries women have spent fighting for equal rights, for freedom, and for autonomy, we are committing to improving economic freedom and equality for women in the following ways:

  • Improving the crypto education we provide. The same study that shows that 43% of interested investors are women, also shows that one of the roadblocks women have to buying crypto is a lack of education on the subject. We’re making it our goal to provide clear and engaging crypto education on our site, such as a series of introductory videos to crypto, that will help all those who are new to crypto understand what they are investing in. And in the coming months, we plan to publish more general knowledge on our site on understanding the different aspects of cryptocurrency. Our goal is to give our users all of the information they need to make an informed investment and drive mass adoption in cryptocurrency.
  • Increasing the number of women on our team. At Coinmama, we’re proud to have women on every single one of our teams, from Research & Development to Risk & Compliance, as well as in key management positions. And since women are better placed to relate to what other women need, we believe that in order to attract more female believers to crypto, we need to increase the number of women on the Coinmama team. Our team is currently 35% female, and we’re working to bring that to 50% through active recruitment and a pledge to equal pay.
  • Listening. One of the things we pride ourselves most on at Coinmama is our commitment to improvement. If you’re a woman in crypto, or a woman who is considering making an investment in Bitcoin but haven’t quite taken the plunge yet, we invite you to reach out to us and tell us what you’d like to see from Coinmama, or what’s holding you back. We can’t promise we’ll implement your request, but we can promise we’ll listen and take it seriously. After all, we’re constantly striving to make Coinmama the friendliest place to buy Bitcoin online.

This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the paths women have forged on their fight to economic freedom. And we’re committed to stand with women every step in the way to achieve a greater kind of economic freedom through crypto.
